[You are woken every day at 7:30 AM by the same robotic voice that woke you on day one. At 11pm each night, a similar message plays reminding everyone about the start of quiet hours and dimming the lights.]

[If you want to talk to Penny, she can be found in the Security Office if she's not anywhere else in the Facility. Office hours appear to be whenever.]

[Shigeo himself had missed everything entirely, having been in his room until he decided to go out and walk around for a little bit. That's when he sees Penny pushing Izuku aside, and out of curiosity he walks over to the other teen to see what's happened.]

Is something wrong, Midoriya-ku--

[And he looks over in the direction that Izuku is looking, and stops in his tracks.]

...i-is that... a person?

[It's asked with a lot of hesitation, and trembling in his voice.]

That is a matter for philosophical or religious debate, 100%. Scientifically, the past tense is now entirely applicable, if it was not before.

H-huh?

[No don't throw that kind of stuff at him he's stupid..]

The past tense...?

[His eyes are stuck on the body, while he talks to their lovely scientist friend. And he can just feel the stress starting to rise from getting a lesson in the middle of his brain trying to process what he's seeing and smelling.

[His voice raises in tone, and he takes a step back.]

[That answer has Shigeo's blood go ice cold, and he suddenly feels.. very unsafe here. Extremely so.]

The Trusty was attempting to gain access to a restricted area. The Assistant failed to sufficiently dissuade him.

I took action to correct the issue.

.....so you killed him?

[It's almost like saying that makes it more real than it already was, and Shigeo visibly looks shaken. They really did just burn someone to a crisp over trying to get into a locked room. They really did kill someone over something stupid like that.]

You killed him. You didn't even give him a chance to apologize for what he did.

He did actually attempt to make an apology, immediately before attempting to assault the Assistant.

But you are absolutely correct that I killed him. I detest rulebreakers.

[Shigeo is quiet for a moment, thinking that over. If he really did try to assault someone... well, it doesn't making killing him justified. Nothing makes killing people justified. And he's not sure if it makes him feel any better or worse, especially with that part about hating rulebreakers.]

...what if someone breaks a rule on accident?

Then they will be reminded to be more careful in the future. Forcibly, if necessary.

My master says that people who abuse their power over someone else to hurt them are no better than the people they hurt. Even if that person did something horrible.

[Izuku stiffens when he hears Shigeo's voice, glancing over at him as he comes up to his side. And for a moment he's...stuck, unsure how to handle this situation. From what he'd learned at UA, he'd be immediately trying to keep any civilians from walking up on the scene unawares, but...he doesn't think they're in immediate danger? So long as they don't break any "rules"... That, and Shigeo is his age. He doesn't feel right trying to tell him what to do, even if the sight before them is pretty grisly.] Y-yeah.

Why...?

[Is all he can really get out at that. Why is there a burnt body here? What happened? Who was it? Was it a bad guy? Did someone get in a fight?

Did this have to do with that "termination" rule...?]

He tried to get into a locked room. [He says quickly, his tone still a bit clipped. He hopes that Shigeo will at least glean from that that apparently trying to force entry anywhere in this facility is going to mean certain death. Which...that wasn't in the rules, as far as he remembers reading. He'll get to that, though.]

He was.. h-he was killed just for that..?

[That's. Alarming as shit.]

I thought.... didn't they say that this place was supposed to be safe?

...I'm sorry, Kageyama-kun. [That's all he can think to say, right now. It was never safe here, Izuku knew that. It wasn't going to be safe. It just took until now for that to fully become a reality.]

[The fact that that's all Izuku has to say doesn't settle well. He really did think they'd be fine here after talking to Penny, that this was totally different from his past experience where he and his friends and brother almost died but.. now it seems like it's worse.

Back then he had his powers. Back then he could protect everyone. Back then he had his master to protect everyone too but here... there's nothing. He's as easy to break as an egg.

And it's scary.]

[He doesn't say anything in response. He just stares at the ground with wide eyes, shaking as he tries to keep it together.

[Izuku recognizes a mental breakdown when he sees one, or at least someone on the verge of being Very much not okay. And...sort of out of the instinctual urge to protect, he takes a step closer to Shigeo and holds out a hand across where he's standing him, as if to guard him from the hard truth as much as the scene before him.] Nothing like that is going to happen to you, Kageyama-kun. I'm not going to let it.

Shigeo looks up slowly at Izuku, standing in front of him protectively, trying to shield him from the grizzly scene in front of them. It.. reminds him of when his master stood up and took the mantle during that fight that almost got them all killed. He was reminded that sometimes, it's okay to run away. It's okay to be scared, and to let someone else fight the bad guys for once. And Izuku's words have confidence to them, as if he was 100% certain that nothing was going to happen as long as he was around to stop it.

It's that confidence that ultimately calms Shigeo down, and he quietly nods his head, thankful to have made a reliable friend in all of this mess.]

You don't have to stay here. It's okay. [He's careful not to tell him to leave, though. Again, they're the same age- he respects him enough not to try to order him around even if he technically might could have the authority to back home. Shigeo had powers too, even if it wasn't quite the same as a Quirk. Izuku could imagine him being able to handle his own if he needed to.]

[There's another nod from Shigeo, but he can't quite get his feet to actually move just yet. The image of that body... well. It's burned to his mind, no pun intended.]

[Now it's Izuku's turn to nod. He keeps looking over to Shigeo, but he doesn't keep his gaze there for long. Mostly, he's keeping his attention on the site of the blast, wanting to make sure nothing else is going to happen.] I know. It's just...a lot. [A Lot.]

...yeah. A lot.

[That's a good way to put it.]

I think I'm going to go to bed early.
